3 Besides being claimed by the United States, this island is disputed with the Marshall Islands. |
||||
| All islands were
formerly National Wildlife Refuges (except
Wake Island, Bajo Nuevo, and Serranilla). There is no clear evidence that Wake Island ever became a National Wildlife Refuge. |

NOTES
Africa* — formerly Antarctica, but currently claimed by Africa
AT — Allodial title claim
LT — Land tenure claim
CTT — Cyberterra Treaty
ISPSP — International States Parliament for Safety and Peace
OEAS — Organization of Emerging African States
¶ — Adélie Land (which the UMMOA has renamed Terra Firma or Terra Fabiana) is Antarctic territory that is claimed by France as one of five districts of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. However, not all nations have given this claim diplomatic recognition. France's sovereignty is not recognised internationally over this claim. So outside of the Antarctic Treaty System (ATS) rationale, Adélie Land is actually just another disputed claim. It should also be noted that ATS claims do not signify de jure recognition. These are all de facto claims, so the Antarctic Treaty does not enjoy the status of customary international law. It should also be noted that customary international law is based on a theory of State consent, and if a State consistently objects to a rule of customary international law, it will not be bound by it. In the Consensus AMOMUS N. 1, the UMMOA's first important legal opinion, the UMMOA has stated "The UMMOA does not accept Antarctic Treaty claims, and would be free to do so even if the Antarctic Treaty were a rule of customary international law, which it is not."
COMMENTS
- The City
of Cyberterra (CT) was founded as a metrosite or
virtual realm. Later the City of Cyberterra also acquired a
geographical consistency, and became the world's first
cybernetic realm (or κυβερνήτης
― kyvernítis).
- The Fifth World Community (5WC) is an inhabited locality, and the world's first diaxenospitia. A diaxenospitia is a "collection of houses or buildings scattered around the world, and treated like a distributed town or city."
- These eleven claims are recognised by the ISPSP: Navassa Island, Bajo Nuevo Bank, Serranilla Bank, Jarvis Island, Palmyra Atoll, Kingman Reef, Johnston Atoll, Baker Island, Howland Island, Midway Atoll, and Wake Island.
- These eleven claims are recognised by the OEAS: Aphrodite Island, Banc du Geyser, Bassas da India, Europa Island, the Glorioso Islands, Juan de Nova Island, Tromelin Island, Amsterdam Island, Saint Paul Island, Crozet Islands, and Kerguelen Islands.
- The OEAS also recognises these islands or archipelagos as UMMOA protectorates: Mayotte and the Chagos Archipelago.
- Trash or Garbage Islands part of the Multi-Oceanic Garbage Patch (MOGP):
- North Pacific Gyre (Great Pacific Garbage Patch or GPGP, actually made up of two large masses of ever-accumulating trash known as the Western and Eastern Pacific Garbage Patches)
- North Atlantic Gyre (North Atlantic Garbage Patch or Sargasso Sea)
- Indian Ocean Gyre (Indian Ocean Garbage Patch).
It is also possible that there
are trash islands in the other two major gyres, the South
Pacific Gyre and the South
Atlantic Gyre. There are also three other minor gyres:
the Beaufort
Gyre (Arctic Ocean), and the Ross and Weddell
Gyre (Southern Ocean gyres).
